Happy Easter week! It’s been spring break at our house and things have been a little crazy! The first two days were super rainy, so we did play dates with friends and the boys seriously tornadoed the house (can I use tornado as a verb??? I guess I just did). The last couple days have been beautiful though, and I’m excited to soak up the sunshine. We’re enjoying digging in the dirt (someday we’ll landscape and have grass), taking trips to the park, and going on bike rides.

I can’t believe it’s almost Easter already. Russian Easter Bread (Kulich)

I know most families eat Ham for Easter dinner, but for most of my childhood it was my Russian grandfather’s Shashlik (my brother shared the recipe for that family tradition here). I can still hear my grandfather’s baritone voice humming songs from Fiddler on the Roof as he tended the old coal barbecue in my grandparents’ backyard. Our Russian heritage was a big part of our Easter celebration, and the only thing anticipated more than the shashlik each year was my FAVORITE part of the holiday meal: Russian Easter bread (or Kulich)….

It’s almost Easter…only four more days. Little Man, you can hardly contain your excitement about Easter egg hunts and baskets full of fun. Little Brother, you don’t really have any idea what’s going on (mostly you just like biting the plastic eggs until they pop open), but you’re happy to go along for the ride. I love to see you so excited, because I love Easter. I love all the family traditions, the time together, the food, the spring weather that appears right around this time….

Last year, my three-year-old somehow found the Easter eggs in the basement mid-February and we had a month and a half of hunting for Easter eggs before the Easter bunny even showed up.

That would have been fine, but he had a bad habit of hiding the eggs for me to find and then forgetting where he put them, which meant I was finding random plastic eggs around the house for months! It was never-ending.
