Travel felt boards are a great activity for kids stuck on a plane or waiting in a restaurant. This fun birthday travel felt board set is a celebratory addition to the downloadable sets I’ve shared in the past.
Little Man’s birthday is this week. My boy is turning five! There’s nothing like your child reaching new milestones to make a mom feel both proud and old at the same time. I mean, I have officially kept another human being alive for five whole years! That’s worth celebrating.
It’s hard to believe though that he’s going to be heading to kindergarten in the fall. He LOVES preschool, and I’m super excited for the opportunities he’ll have in school, but my mama bear heart grieves a little when I think about all the hours my baby will spend out of my home and away from my protection. It’s good for them to grow, but sometimes it’s a little hard, too.
Anyway, in honor of Little Man’s birthday (p.s. – stay tuned for the details of his Paw Patrol birthday party that we’re planning for this weekend), I’m sharing with you a fun project that I’ve been working on for awhile.
Background: some of the most popular posts on my site are the ones for this travel felt board & the downloadable play set templates that go with them.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, let me bring you up to speed. Travel felt boards are a fun DIY felt board that are perfect for traveling with kids (or for restaurants, church, and any other time that you need your kiddos to be occupied and quiet). It took me less than an hour to make mine, costs next to nothing, and has entertained my kids (and the kids of friends who have borrowed it during church) for countless hours over the last year since I made it. If you don’t have your own yet, you can read more here about the basic set or you can get the “Under the sea” themed set (most popular) here.
Now, back to our birthday travel felt board set…
I’ve been wanting to design a birthday-themed set ever since I created the original set over a year ago. After all, what kid doesn’t LOVE birthdays?! And what’s the best part about birthdays? The CAKE, of course (maybe in close competition with presents). Designing and making birthday cakes is kind of a big deal in our house (like our “dinosaur world” cake and rocket ship cake). I love making cakes, so it’s always fun to explore ideas and create my boys’ dream cakes each year. Because they love planning their real birthday cakes with me, I thought my kids would love designing their own birthday cupcakes out of felt.
Little Man got so excited when he saw the template I created that he wanted to help make the cupcakes. So he helped me pick all the colors we used for the cupcakes, frosting, and candles. I love how involved he gets in projects like this! In the end, we ended up with a fun new felt set to play with that
The set includes two cupcake bases, three frosting tops, candles, and various decorations (heart, star, cherry, and flower)…everything your little chef needs to make his or her own birthday cupcake surprise!
If you are interested in making your own “Birthday Wishes” cupcake play set, simply click on the picture or link below and print. Cut the pieces out of your choice of felt colors, and play away!
