If your kids are anything like mine, as soon as St. Patrick’s Day is over, they want to break out the Easter eggs! And, truthfully, I’m okay with that because there are SO many fun ways to play and learn with Easter eggs.

Want an easy activity to try? Do an Easter Egg Trail Mix Hunt!

This is a great activity to do right after naptime (or quiet time if your kids aren’t napping anymore) because it combines a classic Easter egg hunt with the fun of making a tasty afternoon snack!

Plus, it’s SOO simple to prep, which is critical, because who wants to spend precious naptime minutes planning the activities for after naptime? Not me. Mama needs a break, too! The prep for this took me less than 10 minutes, and the pay off in post-naptime enjoyment was huge!

Easter Egg Trail Mix Hunt

Supplies Needed:

  • Plastic Easter eggs
  • Trail mix ingredients such as:
    • Cereal (Cheerios, Kix, puffed rice, etc.)
    • Raisins or dried fruit
    • Cashews, almonds, or peanuts (if no allergies)
    • Goldfish crackers or cheddar bunnies
    • Pretzels
    • Chocolate chips or yogurt-covered raisins
  • A small bowl
  • Baskets or bags for collecting eggs

Instructions:

  1. Fill the Eggs – Place small portions of trail mix ingredients into each plastic egg and snap them shut. I usually put different ingredients in different eggs, so that kids don’t know what they’ll find in each egg.
  2. Hide the Eggs – Scatter the eggs around your yard, home, or park—just like a traditional Easter egg hunt.
  3. Hunt for the Eggs – Have the kids search for the eggs and open them up to discover what’s inside.
  4. Mix and Enjoy – Once all the eggs are found (or as they go), kids can dump their findings into a bowl, mix it up, and enjoy their homemade trail mix snack!
