How to help kids set goals in 2026: Free Printable Goal-Setting Worksheets for Kids
Reflect on 2025 and set meaningful goals for 2026 with your kids using these free printable goal-setting worksheets for kids. Fun, family-friendly activities to help make this year your family’s best yet!

As the current year comes to a close, many of us are starting to think about setting goals for the new year. If you’re not quite there yet, no worries! There’s plenty of time, and remember setting goals doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Sometimes we think things need to be complicated to be effective, but I’m ALL about keeping things simple. No crazy long, unattainable lists over here.
Every year, I like to set some goals for myself, and for the last couple of years, I’ve gotten more intentional about setting goals with my kids as well.
If you’re looking for an easy activity to guide your kids through the goal-setting process, I’ve got you covered! These free printable goal-setting worksheets are designed to help your family reflect on 2025 and set meaningful goals for 2026.
And remember, there’s no rule that says if you didn’t have your goals set by January first then you fail! Even if you’re reading this long after January, remember these wise words:
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” (Chinese Proverb)
So, gather your kids, and get intentional about making this your family’s best year yet!
Why Reflection and Goal-Setting Matter for Kids
I’m a big proponent of setting goals. Why? Because teaching kids to reflect on their achievements and set goals for the future helps them develop self-awareness, boosts their confidence, and gives them a sense of purpose to their days. Plus, it’s a great way for me as a parent to keep tabs on what they are interested in and invest time in helping them become their best selves!
I want to raise confident, capable kids, and setting goals helps us do that. There is something so satisfying about looking back at a goal accomplished and being able to say, “Wow, I did that!” My kids are developing confidence, grit, and a growth mindset…all things I consider cruicial life skills.
How to Set Goals with Kids
This printable set includes two kid-friendly pages that walk you through the process of setting goals with your kids (psst…It works for grown ups, too!):
STEP 1: Looking Back on 2025
Before we set goals for the future, it’s important to reflect on your best memories from the past year, including things you’ve accomplished. Looking back helps us recognize how far we’ve already come (giving us confidence to keep going) and gives us insight into what we want more (and less) of in our lives.
STEP 2: My Plan for This Year
This section helps kids brainstorm areas they want to improve and new things they want to try in the new year. These aren’t meant to be specific goals; it’s just a place to dream about what would make this year awesome!
STEP 3: My Personal Goals
The second page (I printed mine back-to-back) provides space for kids to write down a few personal goals for the year ahead. There are only four lines…and that is intentional. Creating a huge list of things to do is a recipe for failure. Instead, write just a few specific goals. Make them measurable. Then, choose one to focus on first. You can always create additional goals later, once you have accomplished these first ones.
How to Use these Goal-Setting Worksheets for Kids
Here’s how to make the most of these printable worksheets:
- Print the Worksheets
Download and print the pages (link below). Grab some colorful markers, pens, or crayons to make the activity more fun! - Set Aside Time as a Family
Choose a quiet moment to sit down together and work on the worksheets. This could be during a cozy evening at home or on a Sunday afternoon. - Guide Your Kids Through the Process
Help younger kids think about their answers by asking questions. My kids struggled at first to think of what they had accomplished, but as I started reminding them of the things they had achieved, they were able to think of more on their own. If you’re drawing a blank, too, try looking through your camera roll on your phone. Usually we take pictures of those “proud mama” moments, so you should find some good inspiration there. - Share and Celebrate
Once everyone has completed their worksheets, take turns sharing your answers as a family. Celebrate accomplishments and cheer each other on for the year ahead! - Keep the Worksheets Visible
Post the completed worksheets somewhere visible, like the fridge or a bulletin board, to remind everyone of their goals throughout the year. My kids hang theirs in their rooms so they can look at them each night. - Revisit goals often to celebrate and adjust.
If you only set goals in January and never look at them again, they’re likely to get forgotton. I try to meet with my kids for a few minutes individually once a month or so (on Sunday afternoons) to talk about how things are going. We celebrate the progress they’ve made, and we make a plan for what needs to happen next. This helps keep me accountable for helping them, just as much as it keeps them accountable for doing their part.
Tips for Making Goal-Setting Fun and Meaningful
- Get Creative: Let your kids decorate their worksheets with doodles, stickers, or colorful borders.
- Make It a Tradition: Use these worksheets every year to reflect and plan as a family. Save past years’ worksheets to see how your kids’ goals and achievements evolve over time.
- Set Realistic Goals: Help your kids set goals that are specific and achievable. For example, instead of saying, “I want to read more books,” they could set a goal to read one book a month. This is super important!
- Celebrate Progress: Throughout the year, revisit the worksheets and celebrate any goals your kids achieve. This helps reinforce the habit of setting and working toward goals.
