Do your kids love fidget toys as much as mine do? My boys keep fidgets everywhere…in their backpacks, by their beds, in the car. We have so many! One of their favorite types of fidgets are called Wacky Tracks. They’re little, colorful links of plastic that you can bend into lots of different shapes. They love them so much, in fact, that last year for Valentine’s Day, we decided to gift them to all their classmates at school.

Now, I’m usually a buy-valentines-at-the-grocery-store kind of mom, but I got inspired last year. I designed a fun printable card (you can download it for free below!), and my boys helped me shape all the wacky tracks into hearts. Putting together these wacky tracks valentines for their classmates became a fun family project that gave us a meaningful way to spend time together!

Why Wacky Tracks make a great Valentine’s Day gift

  • Fidget toys are super popular with the elementary school crowd.
  • They’re a great sensory toy to occupy hands that like to stay busy.
  • They’re inexpensive. Ours worked out to be less than $7 per class set, which is about the same price as a lot of grocery store valentines these days!
  • They’re especially good for older elementary school kids who may not be excited by other small toys like bubbles, stickers, and crayons.
  • They’re allergy-friendly. If your child’s school has a no-food policy, these are a great alternative!

How to make Wacky Tracks valentines

STEP 1: Buy Wacky Tracks
I bought mine on Amazon. You can get them in different size packs, and they’ll likely be cheaper per piece when you’re buying a larger pack. I bought a large set of Wacky Tracks that had plenty for all three of my boys’ classmates.

STEP 2: Print the FREE Valentine’s Exchange Cards
Getting your free printable Valentine’s cards is easy! Just click the button below and you can print as many copies as you need. I designed them to be bright and fun, but also to save on ink and be easy to cut. Because I’m crafty, but I’m not that crafty.

STEP 3: Assemble your Valentines
Once you’ve downloaded your free printable cards, it’s time to put them together. We bent our Wacky Tracks into a heart shape (cute, right?) and then taped them to the card. You could also tie them on using red and white baker’s twine or ribbon. Be sure to get the kids involved in this part! They are their valentines, after all. My boys helped shape the Wacky Tracks into hearts, write their names on the cards, and do the taping. There’s lots that kids can do!

STEP 4: Share the love!
Now your kids are all ready to hand out valentines at school on the big day. My boys were so excited to hand these out, and they reported back that the other kids loved them, too!
