But do you know what’s even better than blowing bubbles with your kids?

Making GIANT bubbles with your kids!

My kids are old enough now that regular-sized bubbles don’t hold the same magic for them that they used to, but these GIANTIC bubbles? They were a huge hit.

I’ve been meaning to do this with my kids all summer, and we finally made it happen last week. We ordered some giant bubble wands from Amazon (although you can totally make your own if you feel inclined), mixed up the solution the day before (highly recommended), and invited everybody outside after breakfast to play. It was such a great way to start our day!

If you’ve wanted to try making your own giant bubbles, but aren’t sure where to start (or you’ve had disappointing results in the past), this post will teach you everything you need to know!

Today I’m sharing our go-to giant bubble recipe, the best tools to use, and tips for bubble success so you can wow your kids with the biggest bubbles they’ve ever seen.

Best Tools for Giant Bubbles

While you can use a regular bubble wand, giant bubbles need a little more power! Here are a few DIY and store-bought tools that work well:

DIY Bubble Wand

Years ago, I made my own giant bubble wand. It’s pretty simple to make your own using:

  • Two wooden dowels (or sticks)
  • Cotton string (about 6 feet long)
  • A metal washer or small nut (to weigh down the bottom string)

How to Assemble:

  1. Tie one piece of string between the tops of the two dowels (about 3 feet long).
  2. Tie a second, longer string (about 5 feet) between the dowels, letting it hang in a U-shape with the washer in the center.
  3. Dip the entire string into the solution and slowly spread the sticks apart. Walk backward into the wind or move gently to create your giant bubble.

Store-Bought Options

This year, I wanted to keep things simple, so I just bought some giant bubble wands on Amazon. I bought a pack of four so all my kids could have their own (sharing is hard), and they worked great! I like that the rods are telescoping, making them super small and easy to store. I don’t think I could have made my own for less money, and I’m excited to have them on hand for future bubble-filled days!

Tips for Giant Bubble Success

  • Choose the right day: Humid, overcast days are best. If it’s sunny, try to find a shady spot and do your bubbles in the morning before it gets too hot. Super dry or windy weather = instant bubble popping.
  • Let the solution rest: The longer the bubble mix sits (overnight is ideal), the better it works.
  • Dip slowly, move gently: Quick movements pop bubbles. A slow, steady pull creates the biggest, most magical results.
  • Use a shallow tray or baking pan: This makes it easier for kids to dip their wand. We used plastic storage bins (similar to these bins).

Ready to wow your kids with some bubble magic? Mix up a batch, head outside, and let the backyard fun begin.
