How to Make this Mother’s Day Flower Craft

Materials Needed:

  • Free printable flower template (download below)
  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Optional: green construction paper for the stem and leaves

Instructions:

1. Print the Template

Download and print the Lift-the-Flap Mother’s Day Flower Template on white cardstock or regular printer paper. The template includes two parts:

  • A top flower (colored by the child)
  • A bottom flower with “All About Mom” interview prompts on each petal

2. Have Your Child Fill Out the Prompts

Let kids share what makes their mom special by finishing each sentence on the bottom flower petals. The prompts include:

  • “My mom is so…”
  • “My mom always says…”
  • “My mom loves to…”
  • “I love when my mom…”
  • “My mom is the best at…”
  • “My mom loves to eat…”

These answers are often funny, always adorable, and incredibly touching.

3. Color and Cut

Color both flowers—especially the top flower that will be seen first. (Alternatively, you could choose to just color the top flower and leave the bottom one black and white.) Then carefully cut out both flower pieces. Make sure to cut all the way to the edge of the center circle on the top flower so the petals can be folded up all the way to reveal the messages underneath.

4. Glue the Top Flower On

Using a glue stick, carefully glue just the center of the colored flower on top of the interview flower. This way, the petals can still lift up to reveal the sweet answers underneath.

5. Add a Stem (Optional)

To finish it off, cut a green strip of paper for the stem and add some leaves. You can even attach the whole thing to a chocolate bar or card for a sweet surprise! Want some adorable gift tags to go with your gift? Grab this free printable Mother’s Day gift tag set from Blossoms of Blue Design.
